Why choose a .DIET domain?

The word has narrowed a great deal, and it is worth knowing where it came from. In Greek, diaita meant the whole way of living: what you eat, but also sleep, exercise, work, rest. A diet, originally, was a manner of living — not a deprivation. The modern sense, the weight-loss one, is a recent narrowing. Nothing obliges you to stay inside it: the word keeps its original breadth for anyone wanting to talk about food in the wider sense.

A way of living

Diaita, in Greek: food, but also sleep and exercise. The broad sense is still available, and far less crowded.

Nutrition

Dietitians, nutritionists, clinical follow-up, food allergies. Professional titles are protected: state yours plainly.

Prepared meals

Caterers, weekly boxes, adapted menus, delivery. Ingredients, allergens and storage: the three questions asked.

What is regulated

Health and nutrition claims govern what may be written. A careful site beats a promise you will later have to withdraw.

Follow-up

Appointments, multi-week plans, reviews, reminders. Regularity is the real product, far more than the plan’s content.

What it actually changes

• The word is broader than it looks. Diaita meant an entire way of living: the modern sense is a narrowing.
• It is nearly identical in French. “Diète” adds an accent but stays immediately understood.
• No registration restrictions. Health claims, however, are governed by law: that is where it matters.
• It announces a subject, not a method. The word leaves the approach open, which is an advantage.
